Guides, tips and answers for HelpSeeDo

Getting started

Make your first note
  1. Tap + New note and give it a title, like "Video call the grandkids."
  2. Write one step per line. Rather talk? Tap the microphone on your keyboard and speak.
  3. Under Show as, pick Steps (one at a time), Checklist (tick them off) or Plain text.
  4. Add a photo or PDF if it helps, then tap Save.
Send it to anyone with a code
  1. Open the note and tap Send.
  2. Tap Make a code. You get 6 letters and numbers.
  3. Read it to them, or tap Text or Email to send directions with the code.
  4. They go to helpseedo.com, click Enter code, and type it. The steps show up big, one at a time.
What they see, and what you see

They get big steps with Back and Next, plus It worked and I'm stuck buttons. You see when they open it (under Seen on your note) and when they tap a button, including which step they're stuck on.

Helping Mom and Dad on their own screen

Set up their screen once
  1. Go to People and tap Add a device. Name it, like "Dad's iPad."
  2. On their device, go to helpseedo.com/code and type the code.
  3. On an iPhone or iPad, add HelpSeeDo to the Home Screen first (tap Share, then Add to Home Screen), then open the icon and enter the code there.
  4. From then on, pick their device under Send to, and new notes show up on their screen.
When they're stuck
  1. They tap I'm stuck on the step they're on.
  2. You get an alert at the top of your Notes, with the step.
  3. Send a message back, or fix the note and send it again.
Messages back and forth

You and a device can send short messages. Open People and tap their device. They answer from their screen, no account needed.

They can pass it on

On their screen, Send to someone gives them the code for a note, plus Text it and Email it, so Dad can share your directions with a friend.

If they make their own account later

When someone you set up as a device signs up, they see "Move this device into your account?" One tap moves their notes and messages, and they show up once in your People list.

Your Family or Team

Start one
  1. Go to People, then Family or team.
  2. Pick Family or Team, type a name, and tap Start.
  3. Give everyone the 6-letter code. It works for 14 days; tap New code for a fresh one.
  4. They sign up, open People, and type the code. Up to 5 people for now.
Share with everyone in it

Tap Family (or Team) on a template, and everyone can use it. Share a device with the group, and everyone sees its alerts and messages, so whoever's free can help.

Saving and finding notes

Templates for things you send often
  1. Open Templates and tap New template.
  2. Next time, tap Use to send a fresh copy in seconds.
Notes people send you
  1. They land in your Inbox, newest unopened first.
  2. Open one and tap Save to my notes, in the category you pick.
  3. Your copy is yours to edit. It leaves your Inbox, and the sender's note is not changed.
Categories and sorting

Put notes in categories like Recipes or Tech help. Add, rename or delete them on the Categories page (General first, then A to Z). On Notes, Sort by Newest, Oldest, A to Z, Most opened or Category.

Photos, PDFs and scanning

Scan a recipe or printout (beta)
  1. On New note, tap Scan text from a photo.
  2. On a phone: take a photo. On a computer: tap Take the photo with my phone and type the code it shows on your phone.
  3. Check the words and fix any measurements, then tap Add to my note.
  4. The photo is not kept. It works best on printed text; handwriting may not read well.
Photos and PDFs

Add them when you make or edit a note. They are private: only people you send the note to can see them. Free has room for 20 photos and 10 PDFs; Plus has 500 and 200.

The Vault and privacy

The Vault

A private place for door codes, Wi-Fi passwords and other details, opened with your own 4 to 6 digit PIN. Forgot it? Tap Forgot your PIN?, sign in again, and set a new one. Nothing is lost. 5 wrong PINs pauses it for 10 minutes, and it locks itself after 10 minutes untouched. Vault notes are never shared or sent.

On a borrowed phone or library computer

When you sign in, tick Not my device. You're signed out after 5 minutes of no use. You can always tap Sign out at the bottom of any page.

Who can see what

Your notes are never public or searchable. A code or link opens only that one note. Notes marked Private are never sent. If a paired device is lost, remove it on the People page.

Tips and tricks

Make steps easy to follow
  • One action per step: "Press the round Home button," not three things at once.
  • Add a photo of exactly what to tap.
  • Say where it is: "bottom right corner," "the red button."
  • End with what they should see when it worked.
Save time
  • Talk instead of type: tap the microphone on your keyboard. On iPhone and iPad, say "new line" for the next step.
  • Will you send it again? Make it a template (Templates, then New template).
  • Web addresses in a note become tappable links.
  • A note's code keeps working, so people can write it down. Stop sharing turns it off.
Make it yours
  • Set Name people see on your Account page, so notes say who they're from.
  • Pick Light or Dark, and Cards or List, on your Account page.

Questions

How do I send a note to my parent's iPad or laptop?
Go to People, add a name like "Dad's iPad", and you get a 6-character code. On their device, open helpseedo.com/code and type the code. After that, pick their device under "Send to" when you make a note, and it shows up on their screen.
Do they need an app, an email, or an account?
No. They type the code once and that's it. On an iPhone or iPad, add HelpSeeDo to the Home Screen first and enter the code inside its icon, so it stays connected.
How do step-by-step notes work?
Put each step on its own line. On their screen they get a big "Show me step by step" button, one step at a time, with Back and Next.
Can the sender see when I open a note?
Yes. Like "Seen" on a text message, the person who sent a note can see when it was opened and how many times. Only the sender sees this, and nothing else about you or your device is shared.
What do "I'm stuck" and "It worked" do?
When they tap one, you see an alert at the top of your Notes page within about 30 seconds, including which step they're stuck on.
How many notes can I make for free?
Text notes are free and unlimited. Free accounts can add 20 private photos and 10 PDFs, and HelpSeeDo Plus gives you room for 500 photos and 200 PDFs.
Can I add photos to notes?
Yes. When you make or edit a note, use Tap to add photos under Photos. Photos are private: only people you send the note to can see them. Free accounts get 20; Plus gives you room for 500.
How do categories and favorites work?
Categories group notes, like Recipes or Tech Support. Tap the star on a note to make it a favorite. You can filter by either on your Notes page.
How do public links work?
Open a note, tap Send, then Or share the link. Anyone with the link can view that one note, no account needed. You can remove the link anytime.
Is my data private?
Your notes are never listed or searchable. A connected device only sees the notes you send it, and notes marked Private are never sent. Connections are encrypted. Anyone holding a paired device can read its notes, so remove a device on the People page if it's lost.
Can I switch between light and dark?
Yes. On your Account page, or Settings on their device, choose Light or Dark, and Cards or List. Each device remembers its own choice.
